I was talking to a group of trainees on the last of one course when one of them asked me whether it was worth it to be in the army.. It set me thinking about it after that..

i would say i'm well settled into the life of regementation.. waking up at specific times, folding my bedsheets when i wake up, discipline life.. got used to the life in the jungle where mud, leaves and soil doesn't make me feels dirty.. combat rations actually taste pretty tasty if its cooked.. haha..

enlisting in army make me think of life from another perspective.. i learned to treasure things and people around me more.. apply desicion-making and critical thinking every other day and adapting to different scenerios as i encounter them..

i also found out about the state of my body's reaction to the limits that i have been pushed to.. i've also toughen up my mindset.. the determination to get things done and feel the sense of accomplishment like never before..

of course.. there is always the negative side of things.. the punishment i faced and will face if things aren't being done the stipulated way.. how to justify my actions to what i perceived to be correct.. the feeling of being sandwiched between 2 shields when the arrow if flying around..

last but not least.. the great friendships that i have forged with people that went through the same type of heardships with me.. the fun and laughter we all went through together..

eveyone has a story to tell about how their NS life went.. up till now.. i would say that mine has been nothing but fufilling.. as a NSF..

I would say national service it very much worth it despite having its shortcomings.. it helps shapes a 18 yr old boy's mindset to one of an adult.. afterall.. as the saying goes..

this is where boys become man..
